Double decker roof tent

NestMax Elevating Adventure Living

By Kenny Stocker

The world's first double-decker roof tent for adventurous split level camping.

Running out of space when car camping? Dream bigger. Sleep higher.

We’re taking adventure to the next level – literally. Say hello to the NestMax, the natural next step for families who have outgrown our best-selling Nest roof tent.

We think it's the world’s first two-storey roof tent. This game-changing innovation is set to transform car camping, period.

We have always wanted a camper van, but we can't justify the need for a second vehicle. The NestMax sits patiently on top of our eSUV, honestly we forget it is there most of the time, but come the weekend we are away in a flash and it has enough space for the 4 of us. - Jeff and Pam

Features & Benefits:

  • Bungalow mode: Quick deployment for couples, single travellers or especially high winds
  • Exo-Ladder System: Two-tier modular external design with rappel station for emergency exit
  • Two-storey sleeping pods – Perfect for families, couples who need ‘me time’, or that mate who always steals the best spot.
  • Ultra-stable pop-up design – Developed with cutting-edge ‘MetaFrame’ technology to withstand almost all weather conditions.
  • Panoramic viewports – Wake up to double the views.
  • Lightweight & easy to install – Only slightly heavier than your entire camping kit combined!
  • Customisable outers fabricated in our UK factory.
  • Independent Horst link suspension decouples vertical movement from lateral sway for a more compliant sleeping experience
  • Smart-stack connectors mean the top pod can be removed for maintenance, cleaning or saving weight when it is not needed.
  • Bolthole: Sunroof / sunfloor hatch for weather proof transitions between your car and roof tent
  • Internal comms hatch for movement and family interaction between levels

In 2024 our Nest rooftent provided a real GLC alternative but legacy technology and a (far too) rigorous adoption of Le Corbusiers Five Points of Architecture constrained it to single-level living.

We realised we had to move past Le Corbusiers flat thinking. We needed to go in our own direction, and that direction was up.

This posed us with some significant design and engineering problems, but we quickly found our spritual home in the methods of the Metabolism movement. By digging into their ideas on vertical living, pushing the boundaries of density, sustainability, and liveability in high-rise environments we knew we had found the inspiration we needed.

By developing NestMax as an organic, adaptable system we had stumbled upon a design vernacular that was aligned to solving the modern campers demand for convenience and space.

Our key takeaways were:

  • Modular “Capsules” – Each unit as a self-contained, prefabricated pod, fully equipped with a bed, window, service hatch and connectivity.
  • Stackable & Replaceable – Designed to be detachable and replaceable, allowing the stack to evolve over time.
  • Compact, Efficient Spaces – Inspired by Japan’s limited urban space, designs that maximise functionality within small living quarters.

Our aha moment came when we embraced modular and triangular-based architecture in ways that echoed Metabolist architect Kisho Kurokawa’s pod-based approach, but with a focus on triangular geometries to give us the material efficiency and structural strength we needed to make a rooftop solution work.

Specifications:

  • Base Material: Aircraft-grade aluminium with our patented ‘Metab-Frame™’ technology
  • Fabric: Ultra-rugged pure Scottish organic cotton canvas with reinforced storm panels
  • Maximum Load: Standard family of four
  • Wind Resistance Rating: Variable dependent on angle of attack
  • Height: Compact low profile design when packed for driving and 'high-tower' when deployed
We giggle everytime we think about it, but we now carry our home on our back. NestMax offers both protection and stability wherever we go. Our NestMax is both a dwelling and a defense—always there, always secure. We never need to find a home—it is home. - Mike and Paws
