Standup Paddle Boarding delivers a treasured moment

A Treasured Outdoor Moment - Jen Rolls

My boyfriend is paralysed from the knees down following a stint on life support whilst having sepsis. He has mobility issues due to this, which we are still getting to grips with 2 years on.
We spend a lot of time outdoors, walking and swimming. I am a keen wild water swimmer (and huge Dulsie fan).
We went paddle boarding a few times this year and loved it. Matt kneels or sits as he struggles to stand and kneeling is problematic too. This is due to him having no feeling or control of his ankles, feet and lower legs.

Except, one time this summer, he only went and did it!
One minute he was kneeling, the next he was standing with the most determined look on his face.
I cried.
I had never been more proud. He never lets his ‘new‘ disability stop him from trying. He will never be able to walk normally again, and at 28, that’s tough to make peace with. But he gives everything a go, never complains and always does it with a smile on his face.

This will be my best memory for a long time.

Happy New Year
