Young Gloucestershire

By Alpkit

The Alpkit Foundation is delighted to support Young Gloucestershire - a countywide charity that supports young people (aged 11-25) who are facing challenges in their lives andwho’s vision is ‘for young people to have the confidence, motivation and skills to improve their lives.’ Young Glos. would like to enter a team of young people who are not in employment, education or training in the Ten Tors event. Ten Tors caters solely for young people and, depending on age, participants face hikes of either 35, 45 or 55 miles across Dartmoor in under 2 days. For the young people that Young Glos. work with, this may be a life-changing experience, with many having never left the county before. Additionally, it is hoped that their confidence, personal fitness and mental well-being will greatly improve by taking part.

Karl from Young Gloucestershire tells us why he is so passionate about this project. “Everyday I see disadvantaged young people who have not had the greatest starts in life.I love the outdoors and passionately believe that being out in it has a huge impact on mental health and well-being generally. I've grown up with team sports and team challenges and understand the long-term and positive impact that this too has on personal development.”

The teams are all self-sufficient, and must carry all equipment needed for the event, and to stay out over night safely. However, all teams must be led by a qualified leader. The support we are giving Young Glos. will help Karl gain MTE’s Hill and Moorland award, meaning a team can be registered for the May 2017 event.
