Big Shakeout Festival 2024 Round up

By Jenna Charman

Last weekend, we were delighted to invite our friends, families and customers to our annual Big Shakeout Festival. Returning for its 14th year, we took over Thornbridge Outdoors in the heart of the Peak District to celebrate all things outdoors and adventure as we wrap up for Autumn.

Last weekend, we were delighted to invite our friends, families and customers to our annual Big Shakeout Festival. Returning for its 14th year, we took over Thornbridge Outdoors in the heart of the Peak District to celebrate all things outdoors and adventure as we wrap up for Autumn.

The weekend saw something for everyone to get stuck into; for the climbers, we headed out to Stanage Edge for an introduction to outdoor climbing. For those more into two-wheels, we hosted guided rides led by Alpkiteer Pete McNeil, coached rides and MTB jumps and drops from the legends at Hope Academy. And for two-feet, we offered guided walks and runs around the stunning Thornbridge Estate and into the Peak District.

Beyond the grounds of Thornbridge, we soaked up the sun and took to the water with introductions to stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking and canoeing. Or if the exertion of all this activity was too much for you, you could whip up some outdoor cooking with the legendary Harrison Ward aka Fell Foodie, and learn to live off the land with Woodland Ways Wild Food.

We all know it’s the campfire stories that make a good campout. We were pleased to have some truly iconic speakers to this year’s Festival, and of course welcome back our good friends; Al Humphreys, Jen Lowthrop, Dan Milner, Katie Tunn, and the incredible Mel Nichols and Jenny Graham all shared their outdoor adventures, inspiring us to go nice places and do good things.

There ain’t no party like an Alpkit party. Once all the activities from the day were done, we got on our dancing shoes and danced the night away to a whole host of genres with our live music and DJ sets.

We would like to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone who made this year’s Shakeout truly spectacular, and everyone who chose to spend their weekend with us, raising money for the Alpkit Foundation. It means the world.

We would love to hear about your Big Shakeout Festival experience. Please take the time to complete our post-event survey (it should take no longer than 3 minutes!), and help shape the future of the Big Shakeout Festival.
