Ultra is a sub 900g (2lb) freestanding 1-person backpacking tent for ultralight adventures on foot or on two wheels. Go fast and light and stretch your runs, rides and hikes out into multi-day missions. Side entry with plenty of space to sit up inside and a generous porch for damp kit.

  • Freestanding one-piece hub pole system
  • Strong and light carbon fibre poles
  • 100% waterproof nylon sil/sIl flysheet
  • Side entry with spacious porch

Lightweight and strong carbon fibre poles and an ultralight PFC-free siliconised nylon flysheet give the ultimate comfort-to-weight ratio, especially important when you're carrying everything on your back or bike. Keep your sleeping area dry when camping in foul weather and access close items from inside the tent thanks to the side entry porch. Get a good nights sleep between active days with enough headroom to sit up.

Details matter when you're travelling fast and light. Ultra pitches inner first for a strong and spacious living area and gives the option to set up without the flysheet in warm conditions. The combination of the remarkably low-stretch flysheet with a one-piece pole structure gives a stable pitch without the need for guy lines, saving pack weight and making pitching quick and easy. Double looped peg points let you fine tune the flysheet tension without re-pegging your stakes.

Thoughtful features like the internal hanging hook and stash pockets bring a slice of comfort on longer multi-day trips, with an optional footprint to prolong your tent's life when pitching regularly on rough or damp ground.

Ultra is your trail home from home for multi day backpacking, solo mountain marathons, extended bike tours and thru-hikes.

Pitch late, strike early.

Designers notes:

We've selected a super light 10d Nylon with a sil/sil treatment. Silicone is naturally hydrophobic and inert, meaning the Ultra is highly waterproof and longer lasting than traditional PU coatings - in part because silicone is more resistant to hydrolysis and UV degradation. In short, a tent that works harder and costs the planet less.

Sustainability and Product Care

Tent care

Clean and dry your tent thoroughly after each use. Never use a washing machine, tumble dryer or jet wash to clean your tent. Car washes are also frowned upon. Spot clean with warm water, mild (non-detergent) soap and a soft sponge. Never use bleach, fabric softeners or other household cleaning products and air dry only.

Tent repair

To make your tent last longer, avoid prolonged UV exposure and repair damage immediately. All our tents are provided with a basic repair kit for patching holes and splinting poles in the field. If your tent is beyond basic repair, pop down to one of our store's Repair Stations! If you are unlucky enough to rip your tent on a trip, use duct tape or StormSure Tough Tape until you have a chance to repair it properly. For more tent repair tips read our tent care and repair blog.

Alpine Bond

If one of our products does not meet your expectations upon delivery, or if during its lifetime does not live up to the demands placed upon it, please return it to us for repair, replacement or refund. If the problem is our fault then we will do this to your satisfaction. If it’s your fault then we will help out the best we can. Find out more about our Alpine Bond here.

PFC-Free

Siliconised face fabrics do not require a DWR coating, so the Ultra is naturally PFC-Free.

Fire-retardent free

We’ve been proudly fire-retardant free for over a decade. Fire retardants use toxic chemicals that have been linked to carcinogens and complications with pregnancy. Read our guide to fire-retardents to find out more.

Hydrolysis resistant

TPU seam taping is more resistant to hydrolysis (seals being broken down by water), making your tent last longer.

Where It Is Made

Our products are made in the best factories in the world. We know the factories personally and they have all signed up to our Code of Ethics in our supply chain. This includes the Ethical Trading Initiative base code, fair pay, safe working environments, no child labour, no modern slavery, no bribery or corruption, no materials from conflict zones and humane farming methods.

All our factories sign up to our Code of Conduct. Find out where we make our product by visiting our Factories of Alpkit factory zone.

Reducing our carbon footprint

We are carbon neutral under PAS2060 and offset our Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 operations and transport emissions. We recognise that offsetting is not part of the solution but a point to pass through on a journey to Net Zero. Carbon Neutral is just a step in that journey.

We have joined the Science Based Targets Initiative which sets independent targets for us to achieve to do our bit to limit global warming to 1.5°C. Our targets are to halve our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2025 based on 2018 base year and reduce our total carbon intesnity by 15% every year to achieve genuine net zero by 2050.

End of life

When your partnership with this product is over send it back to us and we will pass it on to someone that needs it through our Continuum Project.
