The Jura Mountain Smock is a classic all-in-one layer for throwing on and leaving on, from crisp Autumn walks to cold, damp and downright nasty winter climbs.
In claggy, cold and damp weather, keeping comfortable and warm can be a major challenge – even with a vast arsenal of outdoor layers. The Jura Mountain Smock is an all-in-one system designed to be worn over bare skin or just a base layer.
The Sherpa fleece lining traps lots of warmth inside its furry texture. This provides lots of insulation when you’re less active in milder weather, but it’s also great for slogging away in extreme cold. The fleece’s structure continues to insulate well when damp and it pulls moisture away quickly, aided by an additional wicking treatment, to stop that clammy, chilly feeling you get after some serious effort.
The outer fabric is fully windproof, to lock in warmth, and treated with a PFC-free water repellent to fend off the elements. Thick mist, showers or sleet bead on the outer surface, while you pump out moisture from the inside. This fabric is a hardwearing nylon – tough enough for scrabbling up rock chimneys, gathering firewood or general outdoor use.
A cosy, fleece lined hood can either be hunkered down into or zipped off completely. And the ‘kangaroo’ handwarmer pocket has a roomy front pouch which uses your body heat to dry off gloves and hats.
Designer's Notes
"There’s something satisfying about walking out into the teeth of a gale wearing a jacket that you can leave on all day without having to constantly change layers. That’s why we’ve included huge venting zips from hem to elbow so you can dump heat rapidly, and a hood that you can really bury your face in when the chill sets in. It’s the simplicity of just being able to get on with the job at hand that makes layers like this the choice of Mountain Rescue teams across the country."

When your Jura Mountain Smock stops beading, wash it in pure soap or a tech wash (like Nikwax Tech Wash or Grangers Performance Wash) to keep the water repellent treatment working at its best. If you do use detergent, make sure you rinse your smock thoroughly to remove any leftover traces.
You may need to reproof your smock once or twice a year, depending on usage. Don’t use wash-in reproofers as these will stop the fleece lining from wicking effectively. Use a spray-on reproofer to treat just the outer fabric instead. Nikwax and Grangers both make spray on PFC-free reproofers.

How It Is Made
Recycled Materials
The fleece lining of the Jura Mountain Smock is made using 100% recycled polyester from post-consumer recycled content.
The outer fabric is treated with a PFC-free durable water repellent to avoid the use of potentially harmful man-made chemicals.
Where It Is Made
Our products are made in the best factories in the world. We know the factories personally and they have all signed up to our Code of Ethics in our supply chain. This includes the Ethical Trading Initiative base code, fair pay, safe working environments, no child labour, no modern slavery, no bribery or corruption, no materials from conflict zones and humane farming methods.

Reducing our carbon footprint
We are carbon neutral under PAS2060 and offset our Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 operations and transport emissions. We recognise that offsetting is not part of the solution but a point to pass through on a journey to Net Zero. Carbon Neutral is just a step in that journey.
We have joined the Science Based Targets Initiative which sets independent targets for us to achieve to do our bit to limit global warming to 1.5°C. Our targets are to halve our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2025 based on 2018 base year and reduce our total carbon intesnity by 15% every year to achieve genuine net zero by 2050.
