Filet Review November 2010
The November edition of The Great Outdoors featured a review of our Filet down vest.
The review highlights our Filet does exactly what is says on the tin being a very warm, versatile, not overly technical garment. We haven't targeted its use to anything specific but I guess by the weight we limit it too a base camp and general wear piece.
We removed the fleece collar because it pilled to much and aged the jacket prematurely. Unfortunately we haven't managed to find a replacement mostly due to minimum order quantities. We are constantly looking at possible alternatives but until we start using fleece in larger quantities we will always be hampered by this.
The price is shown incorrectly in TGO, unfortunately we had to increase the price in September 2010 due to poor exchange rates and increased shipping cost in early / mid 2010. The retail price is currently £70. Much of this cost is born from the quantity and quality of the down used in the Filet. If you compare the test winner with a medium Filet, the RAB has 90gms 750+ WGD compared to 215gms 700+ WGD in the Filet. Although the RAB vest has a slightly purer down the Filet has over twice as much down. I wouldn't like to be the product guy at RAB telling the sales team how much their vest would sell for with 200+gms of down. That said the RAB vest doesn't need 200gms of down as it is very different garment.
