Ventile® is a natural, all weather, sustainably grown material. In a world of rainwear, Ventile® stands out. It was invented in the late 1930s in Manchester and later adopted by Edmund Hilary and Ranulph Fiennes. Ventile® is our obvious choice to develop a natural fibre, fully-featured alternative to the modern mountain shell.

"Ventile® isn't waterproof, but it's fantastic in changeable conditions, with better rain protection than a softshell. The fabric has such a tight weave that wind and rain droplets from passing showers can't squeeze through. In more prolonged rain, the cotton fibres on the outside swell and absorb water. This closes up tiny gaps in the weave to keep you protected from bad weather for longer."
Ventile® is woven in Switzerland using the highest quality organic cotton, certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard. Organic cotton farming produces significantly less CO₂, uses less water and eliminates the use of harmful pesticides. And it feels great!
The Ranger uses recycled YKK Natulon zips, recycled brass poppers and all the labels are made from recycled polyester.
The Ranger uses a completely PFC-free DWR treatment on its outer fabric. PFCs are potentially harmful and have been found to build up in the environment.
Temperature: 40°C
Cycle: Gentle
Additional info: Use liquid soap. Do not use fabric conditioners or softeners. Rinse thoroughly and line dry away from direct sunlight.
You can remove most dirt from your Ranger by spot cleaning it. Only wash your jacket when necessary to extend its life.

Author: Chris TownsendVentile is soft and comfortable and lovely to wear. As Ventile is quite thick and the front and hood are double layer the Ranger is quite warm compared to synthetic windproof fabrics. I’ve worn the Ranger over just a base layer on cool days and been warm enough while moving. The hood fits well and moves with the head.
For overnight trips and year-round hillwalking it’s a good choice. As it’s so protective there’s no need to carry a fully featured waterproof jacket as well.
