A good fleece is one of those non-negotiable pieces of outdoor kit — warm, breathable, and versatile enough to be chucked on for everything from hillwalking to campfire lounging. So when Every Body Outdoors’ Emma put Griffon to the test we were keen to see how she got on.
A lightweight and super packable fleece
Straight off, the fit stood out. The longer cut (compared to most mid-layers) was a welcome surprise, offering extra coverage and warmth — a big win for anyone who’s ever had a fleece ride up when layering.
"The material is really impressive — it’s incredibly soft, warm, and yet still breathable." – Emma, Every Body Outdoors
The grid fleece backer provides great insulation without bulk, and it packs down small—ideal for throwing in your bag as an emergency layer. It also gets bonus points for practicality, with features like:
- Polygiene anti-odour tech – Fewer washes, more adventures.
- Snug hood – Stays put, even in the wind.
- Thumb loops & long sleeves – Optional warmth without feeling restrictive.
- Zipped chest pocket – Handy for snacks, keys, or a phone.
She also found the slim fit surprisingly comfortable, even though she usually prefers a more relaxed cut. That’s great for layering, but if you like a looser fleece, you might want to size up—especially if you plan to wear bulkier layers underneath.
A Must-Have for Lightweight Layering
Absolutely. This has to be a contenter for the best-value lightweight fleece out there. Warm, breathable, and highly packable, it’s a solid choice for layering up in unpredictable conditions.
If you want something light enough to stuff in your pack but warm enough to rely on, this should be on your kit list.
