The Milford is a no-thought-required Merino wool midlayer for layering in the cold or wearing alone in milder weather.

Highlights

  • 260gsm ultrafine merino wool for midlayer level warmth
  • Naturally breathable and temperature regulating
  • Odour-resistant for days of wear without washing

Pure merino wool

The Milford is made from pure merino wool, ethically sourced from non-mulesing Australian farms. We’ve used ultrafine fibres (17.5 micron) and a 260gsm fabric for a super high warmth-to-weight ratio. This makes the Milford warm enough to wear on top of your base layer, by itself in milder conditions or under a shell when the weather whips up.

Naturally breathable

The only thing better than one layer of merino wool is two layers of merino. Double merino. Wearing the Milford on top of your merino base layer allows your body’s moisture to escape effortlessly. This stops you getting clammy and keeps you a comfy temperature when you start walking, biking, paddling or wrestling your tent up.

Odour resistant

Merino wool is naturally odour-resistant too, so you can wear the Milford for a whole day of activity – or several days of activity – and not feel self-conscious about potentially powerful scents when you walk into a pub/café to grab some tea.

Comfort built in

For the Milford we used a loop-back fabric, just like your favourite cotton sweatshirt. As well as being soft against your skin, this traps warm air and helps your base layer with the wicking process. The neck has a zip collar to keep the draughts out and we’ve used narrow merrow seams for comfort under layers and packs.

Sustainability and Product Care

Product Care Information

Avoid snagging, vigorous machine washing, putting your finger through the fabric, and hungry moths. Those darn moths. Merino wool is naturally odour-resistant, requiring less washing.
When your sweater does start to whiff, hand wash it in lukewarm water or stick it on a delicates cycle at 30°C. Use a gentle soap instead of detergents if you can, and do not use conditioners or fabric softeners.

We have dedicated Repair Stations in our stores and we're fully equipped to breathe new life into your old kit. This includes spare parts, patches, new zips and wash and reproofing of your down and waterproofs. Pop into any store or contact us online for more info.

Sustainability

How It Is Made

Non-mulesed Merino
We only use merino from certified non-mulesed sources. Mulesing is a practice some farms use to guard against parasitic fly strike. We believe this practice is cruel and unnecessary and something that can be easily prevented by regular shearing.

Natural Fibre Materials
Merino wool is 100% natural, biodegradable and renewable (sheep produce new fleece and sheep produce new sheep... usually in spring... they gambol... you know all this...)

Where It Is Made
Our products are made in the best factories in the world. We know the factories personally and they have all signed up to our Code of Ethics in our supply chain. This includes the Ethical Trading Initiative base code, fair pay, safe working environments, no child labour, no modern slavery, no bribery or corruption, no materials from conflict zones and humane farming methods.

All our factories sign up to our Code of Conduct. Find out where we make our product by visiting our Factories of Alpkit factory zone.

Reducing our carbon footprint
We are carbon neutral under PAS2060 and offset our Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 operations and transport emissions. We recognise that offsetting is not part of the solution but a point to pass through on a journey to Net Zero. Carbon Neutral is just a step in that journey.

We have joined the Science Based Targets Initiative which sets independent targets for us to achieve to do our bit to limit global warming to 1.5°C. Our targets are to halve our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2025 based on 2018 base year and reduce our total carbon intesnity by 15% every year to achieve genuine net zero by 2050.

End of life
When your partnership with this product is over send it back to us and we will pass it on to someone that needs it through our Continuum Project.
