Wild Trent Challenge tests endurance. Paddlers navigate
Getting social in the outdoors, having fun, raising money and awareness for local wildlife? Well Derbyshire Wildlife Trust are organising the Wild Trent Challenge, a way to explore wild spaces, experience the Trent Valley in a whole new way and do something awesome for local wildlife. What’s more, with the event taking place on August 31st, you’ve still got plenty of time to enter, train and get ready!
Jack Roper from the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust explains a bit more about the event and how it can really help. “This is an event that will enable people to discover the wild spaces on their doorsteps whilst challenging themselves and their perspective on the local landscape. The Trent Valley has long been associated with heavy industry which has overshadowed the truth; that the Trent Valley is an impressive and vital wetland corridor full of opportunities for adventure and exploration.
The Alpkit Foundation have been delighted to be able to help out towards making the event happen. This is a chance to take a physical and enlightening journey through the landscape, starting with a 9km run and ending with a 8km canoe down the Trent. Through sponsorship raised, this will “.raise vital funds, enabling Derbyshire Wildlife Trust to continue to deliver it'simportant conservation programmes, people engagement, education and health / wellbeingprojects. We want to inspire people about the natural world so that they value itunderstand their relationship with it and take action to protect and restore it”
You’ll be able to enter as teams of two or three people, but friends and family are also welcome to be there on the day and will have a chance to enjoy the food, drink and wildlife on offer from the bankside.
Want even more incentive to enter? Well. If each person raises sponsorship of £100 they will be able to restore 3,000 meters of hedgerow - the perfect home for wildlife. Raise £150 each and it could pay for 90 new osprey nesting platforms in Derbyshire.
