One in a Million

Supporting youngsters to participate in outdoor activities and create lasting positive impacts on their lives.

One in A Million helps children from disadvantaged communities around the Bradford district. To give them a safe place to go, to discover their talents and passions and equip them to become life and work ready. Within this they look to encorporate outdoor activities and the benefits these can bring in helping to improve physical and mental health.

"For many of the children we support—some of whom rarely travel beyond their local area— this really is a trip of a lifetime and we truly find that even a one-off experience such as this can have a lasting impact in a young person’s journey to becoming ready for the world of life and work."

This annual trip to Doe Park Watersports and Activity Centre provides a vital opportunity for youngsters to challenge themselves, both physically and mentally, grow in confidence, and experience the outdoors like never before. A grant of £240 was used to help towards transport on their trip.

"With help from funding by the Alpkit Foundation,  this year’s trip to Doe Park achieved our goal of providing 33 young people with the opportunity to challenge themselves, build confidence, and create lasting memories. Through a variety of activities, participants stepped outside their comfort zones, conquered fears, and developed key life skills such as teamwork, resilience, and courage. "

The sheer excitement of the trip was evident in the young people's reactions:

  •  “That was amazing! I want to do the obstacle course again!”
  •  “I’m shaking from all the adrenaline!”
  •  “I feel like a starfish in this wetsuit!!”

"Your donation contributed to a life-changing trip for young people from the most underprivileged wards across the Bradford District, to partake in the adventure of a lifetime; kayaking, raft-building and tackling the high ropes course. - Thank you!"

One In A Million staff member, Christian, reflected,

“Lots of bravery, courage, and resilience were shown by the young people. What a brilliant day for all the staff and children involved. These experiences go beyond a single day—they empower young people to push boundaries, believe in themselves, and develop skills that will benefit them long after the trip has ended."

It's always incredible to hear the impact just a short amount of time taking part in outdoor activities can make. A huge thank you to the team at One in a Million for letting us know how they got on and the amazing work they do.
