Planning a bank holiday escape? Skip the traffic, take the train, and roll straight into adventure with your bike. It’s easier than you think and way more fun.
Worried about getting your Bike on the Train?
Taking your bike on the train can seem like a faff, but it’s pretty straightforward:
- Reserve a bike space when booking your train ticket (it’s free!)
- Forgot to book? Ask staff at the station—they can often sort it
- Tell platform staff where you’re headed so they can unlock the bike compartment
- Load up, then walk through to your seat
- At your stop, head back to your bike and staff will unlock the door for you to get off
Worst case? Run through the carriage and give them a wave. But I’m yet to have that happen to me.

Ride, Explore, Repeat
Train travel opens the door to wild places. One of my favourite adventures is to hop on a train to Penrith, then ride the scenic 40-minute ride to Ullswater Lake. From there, the Lakes are yours to explore - go wakesurfing, hire a paddleboard, swim, or even a hike up Helvellyn.
This bank holiday, let your bike take you to your next adventure. Sonder bikes are made for these multi activity days out. Just grab your kit, hop the train, and head for somewhere new.
Adventure’s waiting. You just have to ride there.
