Ultralighweight down sleeping bag

Which ultralight sleeping bag for bike packing and backpacking

By Kenny Stocker

Explore the Alpkit Pipedream 200, an ultralight sleeping bag ideal for long-distance treks and fast, light outings. Discover its high-quality fill and comfort rating for late spring to early autumn.

We are pleased to see that TGO have included our PipeDream 200 sleeping bag in their review Best budget sleeping bags for 2024.

Of course price is relative, and many of us would question whether any of the bags in this review are strictly ‘budget’ when you can pick up a ‘more budget’ bag from Argos for under £30.

The term ‘Budget’ may not be the most helpful here as it infers you are going to have to compromise your camping adventure in some way, perhaps in added weight, pack-size or quality.

Being direct to consumer and offering the same, or better specs than our competitors at less than high street prices, it is a position we know well.

The Pipedream is 300 grams lighter than any other bag in the test - most are over 500 grams heavier. The Big Agnes Anthracite for example is £10 more expensive and 700 grams heavier.

What is true is that the Pipedream 200 is one of the best value lightweight sleeping bags you will find.

The review highlights this succinctly:

.an ultralight sleeping bag that would be superb for anyone undertaking long-distance walks or fast and light trips from late spring to early autumn.

It packs an exceptional combination of ultralight design and thermal efficiency. Weighing just 545 grams, this is a sleeping bag perfect for adventurers prioritising minimal weight without sacrificing comfort. Ideal for long-distance walking, bikepacking, or any activity that benefits from a fast and light approach from late spring to early autumn.

Filled with high-quality 750 fill power DownTek PFC-free water-repellent down, ensuring a comfort rating of 11°C (51°F).

In addition to its impressive warmth-to-weight ratio, the Pipedream 200 features stitch-through baffles to reduce weight further, a PFC-free DWR treated polyester outer for damp resistance, and a design that includes a shaped hood and foot box for added warmth and comfort. The sleeping bag also comes with a three-quarter-length zip, enhancing its versatility across various temperatures and conditions.

In addition Pipedream is available in two lengths so you can optimise your thermal comfort even more. The Regular version of the Pipedream 200 can be compressed down to an incredibly compact size of 15 x 12cm, making it an excellent choice for those looking to save space, squeezing it into bike packing luggage or a fast and light pack.

Pipedream 200 offers the perfect balance of comfort, weight, and packability for three-season adventures, and does so with incredible value.
