Emily is an activist and general outdoorsy person - always trying to fit some sort of adventure into her life. She loves cycling, especially with friends and swimming (especially when it’s icy). Recently she has developed a taste for long canoe trips, and has started to learn to freedive.
Having spent many years squeezing herself into badly fitting mens XL clothing, and being colder and wetter on trips than everyone else, she decided to do something about it. Emily is one of the co-founders of Every Body Outdoors, a UK-based community group that advocates for plus-size people in the outdoors. Every Body Outdoors provides plus size courses and volunteer led walks, campaigns for better representation of plus size people in the outdoor world and works with brands wishing to increase their size and fit of their range.
Capsized
Last year Emily featured in the award winning film Capsized, one of only a handful of outdoor films featuring plus size women, which follows her on a daring canoe adventure across the Isle of Lewis.
“This film is a celebration of inclusion, showing that outdoor exploration, adventure, and the beauty of nature are for everyone, regardless of size or appearance,” comments Emily Williams, Co-Founder, Every Body Outdoors, “It’s a story that reminds us all that the outdoors is a place for empowerment, for pushing boundaries, and for feeling connected to something larger than ourselves—no matter who we are or what we look like.”
