Being able to escape to the outdoors can be life changing for young people facing constant struggles growing up in areas of deprivation. Bryntail Cottage, outside Llanidloes in mid Wales, has been used for residential wilderness adventures by Birmingham children since 1915.
Neil from Tile Cross Academy, the host school for Bryntail cottage, applied to the Alpkit Foundation. "A condition of securing our new 30 year, peppercorn rent, lease for the cottage is to ensure the electrical supply meets current building regulations. We hope to have this work completed before Easter to enable groups to begin visiting the cottage again as soon as Covid restrictions are lifted"
With help towards the cost of this work it will ensure that the cottage can continue to be used in supporting young people facing various struggles, access the benefits of time outdoors.
The Bryntail Cottage Charity was established in 2020 to continue the legacy for the next 100 years, with a purpose ‘To provide in the interest of social welfare affordable accommodation and facilities for educational, recreational and other leisure time occupation for children and young persons who by reason of their youth or social and economic circumstances are in need of such facilities with the object of improving the conditions of life for such children and young persons.’
