Our waxed cotton is dyed, finished, and perfected in Dundee, Scotland, by Halley Stevensons - a mill with over 150 years of expertise. Few fabrics carry such a rich heritage, and fewer still are crafted with such care.
Made from Natural Fibres
Unlike many synthetic technical fabrics, waxed cotton is made from natural fibres. That means no plastics, no petroleum, and nothing that lingers in the environment. It’s a biodegradable and sustainable alternative to high performance synthetic materials.
A Protective Barrier
Densely woven cotton, finished with a wax coating, creates a strong and dependable shield against the elements. Rain beads off the surface, while the natural fibres allow the fabric to breathe. That balance of weather protection and comfort is what makes waxed cotton truly unique.
Double-Layer Protection
Every Trakke bag is made with waxed cotton inside and out. This creates a double barrier against moisture, so whether you’re caught in a storm or setting your bag down on damp ground, your kit stays safe and dry.
Low Maintenance, Built to Last
Waxed cotton is incredibly durable. It won’t melt in high temperatures or flake like synthetic coatings often do. With simple care, it stays functional indefinitely. Reproofing restores water repellency, refreshes colour, and conditions the fibres - preventing wear and extending the fabric’s life for years to come.
Breathable and Comfortable
The natural cotton fibres allow air to circulate, helping to reduce odours and prevent that clammy feel that often comes with synthetics. It’s a material designed for real-world use, day in and day out.
A Fabric That Tells a Story
Perhaps the best thing about waxed cotton is the way it ages. Over time, it develops a rich patina that’s completely unique to each bag. Every crease, mark, and fade tells the story of the journeys it’s been on. It’s a material that doesn’t just endure adventure — it records it.
