The Pinion version of the Broken Road puts all the moving parts of the gear system out of harm’s way and gives an almost silent, well-balanced ride.
It’s a low maintenance dream - you can cover 10,000km before you need to think about an oil change. The range of gears is just enormous (600%) and because of the way the gearbox works you can dump all of them in one go if you get caught out at the bottom of a brutal climb. It’s an amazing experience.
All the weight of the gears are low and central with a pinion gearbox so handling of the Broken Road Pinion is beautifully balanced and assured.
The slackened angle gives the perfect balance of comfortable uphill grinding and exciting downhill whooping. A longer wheelbase wonderfully balances precision and handling.
The wide, ovalised top tube gives vertical compliance but lateral stiffness -this also makes it easier to keep your luggage in place when riding over rough ground.
Broken Road’s titanium frame is designed for optimum use with 29" wheels but can be swapped out for 27.5 to help you tackle any journey that you thrust upon it. The bigger, fatter wheels go over obstacles better, hold momentum and give enhanced control due to the angling.
