      In general riser bars tend to be wider than flat bars and may have slightly more flex to give a more forgiving ride. As you go into descents and your arms drop below your knees the additional height gained on your front end will help you take control of the steep descents.

      That said you can get all bar types in a range of widths and stiffnesses and front end height can be adjusted with spacers like our Love Mud Rings, so sometimes you just have to ignore the mumbojumbo and make your call on style and personal preference and there is nothing wrong with that.

      Confucius says that you don't have to sacrifice what you love about your traditional riser bars just to get the flexibility of a hooped bar.

      We have taken our Aspect risers and evolved them in to a bar designed primarily for bikepacking. You won't have to adapt to a new hand position so you are not going to lose any control offroad and you can still get out of your saddle and power up the hills like a hero. If you do want to move your hands a bit a reduce the fatigue of a long ride the hoop extends out front giving a choice of further hand positions. Need some bar tape? Add a couple of rolls of Love Mud Reels for better comfort and grip.

      The bars have a slight riser but feel free to experiment and rotate them to your suiting. Keep them horizontal, or twist them up slightly to give yourself a streamlined TT style riding position to help you battle across a windblown Tierra del Fuego.

      Strength is not compromised as the main load bearing section of the bar is a single piece. Got gadgets? Confucius loves gadgets, and with the out-front hoop you can free up the bar around the stem. Simply attach your Garmin, 3000 lumen torches or mascots to the hoop and they will still be well within reach, maybe at an even better viewing angle and sit above your handle bar luggage.

      Take your bikepacking into the mountains; Confucius is a bar that gives you more control than a tradional swept back bar on technical terrain.

      Flat bars help you keep the front end of your bike low, allowing you to get the weight over your front wheel when climbing and giving you more control in cornering.

      Our flats have a 5˚ rise so technically we should call them flatish, but if you really need them to be totally flat just rotate in the stem clamp!

      High density foam padding over a plastic base provides comfort and longevity. A v-shaped split at the rear of the saddle allows flex as you are riding, increasing shock absorbancy and reducing pressure on the spot between your sit bones.

      Scooped up at the back with a slight rise towards the nose the longitudinal profile provides a cupped, craddled seating position, a timeless, proven design for distance on and off the road or climbing in the mountains.

      Stainless steel rails give 50 mm of forward and back adjustment to help you find your sweet spot.

      Adventure cycling is diverse; in the course of a single trip you can find km's of asphalt, traverse rutted grasslands, weave through thickly forest singletrack, climb loose gravel track or descend steep rocky trails.

      It is unlikely you are going to find a single saddle position for all of this terrain. With this in mind Kura has a flat longitudinal profile with a gentle lateral curvature to give an extended saddle area, allowing you to position yourself around the saddle as you move between road, downhill, and climbing.

      The honeycomb base reduces weight whilst still providing structure and support that adapts and flexes with your motion.

      Titanium rails giving 50 mm of forward and back adjustment to help you find your sweet spot. Titanium is more forgiving than steel so provides a little more comfort.

      Slightly wider than our Adobe saddle, it may provide additional comfort for riders with wider sit bones.

      Sonder Alphas are our performance wheelset. It’s a light, versatile disc brake wheelset built for riding fast in all seasons. And while they’re made for speed, Alphas still easily take wide tyres and are tough enough to load up for multi-day trips on the road and trail.

      20mm wide rims are perfectly suited for 28 – 50mm tyres, which means more traction through a broader contact patch and lower rolling resistance. Alphas are machine built for precision on Sonder’s sealed 6 pawls hubs, which have 120 engagement points in the freehub to give you immediate engagement when you start pedalling (most hubs only have 60, which means you have to turn the pedals further before engaging the freehub). Oh, and the hubs sound amazing!

      Smashing through puddles and over marshy ground can be great fun, but getting a face full of bog water certainly isn’t. 

      You can avoid a wet face with a Love Mud Front Fender. These lightweight plastic mudguards don’t require any special fixings on your bike and can be strapped straight onto your forks.

      You don't know the next time you are going to see home, you came here to get away from that. The few meagre luxuries you have with you are tucked away like precious little eggs in the pannier behind you. You have to look after yourself on the road.

      Tour Rack is a solid rear mounted pannier rack with an integral low-rider frame. It is made to support you on your big journeys, carrying your stuff until you decide you have had enough. Funnily enough it plays nicely with our Sonder Santiago and Camino framesets.

      Low riders - other than just sounding cool - lower the hang height of your panniers thus improving stabilty. If you need the extra clearance just pop your pannier up to the top bar.

      An added bonus is a bolt-on “light tube” which provides a secure fixing for most LED rear lights designed to fit on seat posts.

      The Tour Rack won't make your bike look any sexier than it already does, but you will be able to stay away from home longer.

You can also take into consideration the standover height to ensure you pick a bike that will be a good fit. If you measure your inside leg and ensure there is a minimum of an inch from the toptube to your crotch this will give you enough seatpost adjustment to find your optimum saddle height.

Reynolds 631 steel tubing

Durable, smooth and assured on those multi-month trips Reynolds 631 steel is an excellent material for round-the-world touring where you’re completely dependent on your bike. We’d be surprised if you needed to get your frame repaired, but it’s comforting to know that finding a steel welder in the middle of nowhere is far easier than getting your alloy frame repaired.​

Traditional bike, contemporary geometry

Santiago’s takes classic road bike geometry as a starting point, with a longer wheelbase and higher stack height for a more comfortable riding position and assured ride, whether you’re travelling light or fully loaded up.

Generous tyre clearance

​Clearance for up to 650b x 47 mm or 700c x 37 mm tyres that make your ride more comfortable and give better grip on the bitumen as you corner.

Full traditional mounts

With full rack and guard mountains, 3 sets of bottle cage bosses and extra cage mounts on the fork, Santiago can handle being fully loaded up.​
