The Kepler Long Johns are the ideal addition to your cold weather layering system for winter walking epics, hunkering down on chairlifts or staving off sleeping bag shivers.

  • Ultrafine Merino wool has a high warmth-to-weight ratio
  • Corespun Merino fits better, keeps its shape and lasts longer
  • Breathable and wicking Merino wool keeps you comfortable

The superfine (17.5 micron) merino we use has an excellent warmth to weight ratio and, as an ‘active fibre’, responds to temperature changes to keep you warm in the cold and cool when you’re working hard.

Merino is also highly breathable, transporting your body’s moisture vapour outside without feeling wet to the touch. Whether you’re slogging up a Munro in knee-deep snow or standing around on the summit waiting for your pals, you’ll stay warm and dry.

We’ve used Core Spun merino for underwear, a technology with all the benefits of merino but with added durability. It’s still merino on the outside but a nylon and spandex core produces a yarn that’s harder wearing and rebounds back into shape better than 100% merino.

Wool is a naturally odour-resistant material, meaning you can go longer between wash cycles on multi-day trips – kinder on the planet and anyone you’re sharing a bothy with!

Flat-lock seams, a low-profile waistband and next-to-skin cut ensure the Long Johns layer neatly under your outer trousers and the superfine merino is soft against the skin. We also only use merino from Australian non-mulesing farms for happy legs and happy sheep.

Sustainability and Product Care

Product Care Information

The better you look after this merino garment, the better it will look after you. Give your Kepler a long, happy life with these tips: Hand wash your merino in lukewarm water, or gentle machine wash at 30°C. Darn any holes as soon as possible so they don’t grow. Avoid snagging, vigorous machine washing, putting your finger through the fabric, and hungry moths.

Sustainability

How It Is Made

Non-mulesed Merino
We only use merino from certified non-mulesed sources. Mulesing is a practice some farms use to guard against parasitic fly strike. We believe this practice is cruel and unnecessary and something that can be easily prevented by regular shearing.

Natural Fibre Materials
Merino wool is 100% natural, biodegradable and renewable (sheep produce new fleece and sheep produce new sheep... usually in spring... they gambol... you know all this...)

Where It Is Made
Our products are made in the best factories in the world. We know the factories personally and they have all signed up to our Code of Ethics in our supply chain. This includes the Ethical Trading Initiative base code, fair pay, safe working environments, no child labour, no modern slavery, no bribery or corruption, no materials from conflict zones and humane farming methods.

All our factories sign up to our Code of Conduct. Find out where we make our product by visiting our Factories of Alpkit factory zone.

Reducing our carbon footprint
We are carbon neutral under PAS2060 and offset our Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 operations and transport emissions. We recognise that offsetting is not part of the solution but a point to pass through on a journey to Net Zero. Carbon Neutral is just a step in that journey.

We have joined the Science Based Targets Initiative which sets independent targets for us to achieve to do our bit to limit global warming to 1.5°C. Our targets are to halve our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2025 based on 2018 base year and reduce our total carbon intesnity by 15% every year to achieve genuine net zero by 2050.

End of life
When your partnership with this product is over send it back to us and we will pass it on to someone that needs it through our Continuum Project.
