We’ve designed the Baralla shirt to feel just as soft, light and comfortable as cotton, with the added performance of synthetic fabrics. It’s the sort of shirt that you’d wear to stay cool on a hot trek or bike ride but happily wear out for dinner afterwards.
In baking heat, a looser fitting cotton shirt can feel more comfortable than a close-fitting base layer. But there’s nothing worse than walking in a sticky, sweat-sodden cotton shirt all day so we’ve designed the Baralla to combine the benefits of both.
The light fabric has a soft, natural feel that moves with you and the tailoring around the shoulders provides additional freedom. This stops the shirt from feeling restrictive under a rucksack and allows you to stretch forwards on the bike or for gaining extra trekking pole leverage.
Because the fabric’s synthetic fibres don’t absorb water, the Baralla is naturally wicking and extremely fast drying. But, on top of that, the yarns in the fabric have been given a permanent wicking treatment. This speeds up evaporation to keep you cool and dry, even under a beating sun.
We’ve intentionally chosen lighter colours to reflect as much heat as possible and the fabric has a UPF of 50+. Combined with the long sleeves, this provides a high level of sun protection, whether abroad, at altitude or during the height of British summer.
Polygeine®anti-odour technology keeps you (or at least your shirt!) smelling fresher for longer on cycle tours and and multi-day hillwalking trips. Plus, because the Baralla is so fast drying, it can be easily washed and dried overnight in a hostel sink/closest body of non-mucky water for longer stretches of travelling.
"By choosing a fabric with inherent mechanical stretch and tailoring the shirts for movement, we’ve eliminated the need for spandex (which holds moisture), keeping the shirt as light and fast-drying as possible." - Ronnie, Design Manager

This shirt has been treated with Polygiene® Stay Fresh technology which inhibits the growth of bacteria, so you can wear it for longer before it starts to whiff.
When it does start to pong, wash on a normal cycle at 30°C or handwash with cool water. Use a non-biological detergent or pure soap. DO NOT use fabric conditioners or softeners - these will stop your shirt wicking as well. Rinse thoroughly in clean water and line dry or tumble dry on low heat.

How It Is Made
Polygiene® Stay Fresh
Polygiene® Stay Fresh technology inhibits the growth of pong-causing bacteria, extending your shirt's lifespan and meaning you can wear it more and wash it less. Wearing your shirt just one more time before washing can save huge amounts of CO₂ and water over its lifespan.
Where It Is Made
Our products are made in the best factories in the world. We know the factories personally and they have all signed up to our Code of Ethics in our supply chain. This includes the Ethical Trading Initiative base code, fair pay, safe working environments, no child labour, no modern slavery, no bribery or corruption, no materials from conflict zones and humane farming methods.
All our factories sign up to our Code of Conduct. Find out where we make our product by visiting our Factories of Alpkit factory zone.
Reducing our carbon footprint
We are carbon neutral under PAS2060 and offset our Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 operations and transport emissions. We recognise that offsetting is not part of the solution but a point to pass through on a journey to Net Zero. Carbon Neutral is just a step in that journey.
We have joined the Science Based Targets Initiative which sets independent targets for us to achieve to do our bit to limit global warming to 1.5°C. Our targets are to halve our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2025 based on 2018 base year and reduce our total carbon intesnity by 15% every year to achieve genuine net zero by 2050.
End of life
When your partnership with this product is over send it back to us and we will pass it on to someone that needs it through our Continuum Project.
