Wanted: Senior Designer
Alpkit needs someone that wants to be an integral part of developing its product ranges, particularly clothing. You're already working for a major outdoor brand and can happily take a product from conception to production. But you a have a problem. You have hit a ceiling where you are, there is already a head of design, lead designer, or senior clothing designer and although you want their job (and you know you can do it). You can’t wait.
Alpkit is expanding fast and clothing will be a massive part of that expansion. We need you now.
The current team is small, "you’d be doubling it’s size” but it would be focused. This would be hands on with a capital H. Although you might not have all the skills to execute the development of a product, you’d be expected to know what needs to be done and make it happen.
Proficiency and aptitude in design packages such as Illustrator is useful, much more important is a core understanding of how to innovate, improve and deliver products. Active users in the outdoors will always have an advantage.

Listen to our customers and deliver a clothing range to suit their activities
To establish detailed / accurate design & material specifications for all products
To prepare and maintain seasonally accurate tech pack documents for every product (Detail design sketches, materials part lists, measurement charts, key sewing instructions, care/content details, packaging/hang tag/UPC coding info).
To develop and maintain accurate style and costing information
To critique all proto, sales, & pre-production samples against the tech pack specifications for fit, sewing quality, design accuracy, and functionality.
Submit, review, and approve all colour lab dips.
To complete the development of product specifications against the agreed design and development process and timelines on time, in full and accurate.
Product Director: To execute development of products based on range brief and target costings.
Buying: To supply with relevant product specification, style coding, and costing information according to the product development timeline.
Marketing: Communicate clearly the brief and technical feature information so that it can be used in consumer communication tools.
Attention to detail
Computer literate with ability to use Word, Excel, & Mac based apps
Fluent in written and spoken English
Technical apparel / accessory creation skills
Competent in Adobe Illustrator
Experience with PDM or related tech pack system (preferred)
Understanding of the outdoor sports markets and trends
Apparel / technical accessory manufacturing
User / consumer level awareness of outdoor products
Assertive / tenacious
Self-starter / problem solver
Strong attention to details
Enthusiastic with a youthful mindset
Able to work /communicate in culturally diverse environments
Adhere to deadlines
Ability to travel for sourcing and research trips any up to two weeks
Although no formal qualification is a prerequisite, a high degree of technical knowledge will be required
Technical training or factory experience in apparel / accessories product design / development
Active in outdoor sports (preferred)
Minimum 2 years of related industry experience.
