Alpkit and SteepEdge are proud to support the project, and with just over a week to go, the BMC’s Mend Our Mountains campaign has never been so important. Mend Our Mountains is a crowdfunding campaign, and are aiming to receive over £100,000 in donations. This money is desperately needed for vital repairs to mountain paths across the UK.
Money raised will go towards Dartmoor, Exmoor, the Peak District, Lake District, North York Moors, Yorkshire Dales, Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacon National Parks. Together with Alpkit and SteepEdge, Mend Our Mountains is supported by Sir Chris Bonington, Julia Bradbury and DMM, to name a few. There’s some great rewards on offer for those who kindly choose to donate, including starring in a Trail magazine feature, walking in the Cairngorms with Chris Townsend, and masterclasses with top climbers such as Steve McClure, James McHaffie and Calum Muskett.
Carey Davies, BMC hill walking officer explains the importance of the campaign. “The response to Mend Our Mountains so far has shown that many walkers, climbers and outdoor enthusiasts care strongly about looking after the mountain landscape. Booming visitor numbers and smaller budgets, compounded by the extensive damage of recent flooding, means that many national park authorities are struggling to keep up with the ongoing challenge of erosion. But we want to send as loud a signal as possible that we are prepared to do what we can to stop mountain erosion. These hills are ours to climb and ours to care for. The more we raise in this campaign the stronger this message will be.”
This repair work is critical in preserving our beautiful National Parks for future generations. The current total is more than £55,000, and there's still along way to go to reach the aim of £100,000.The campaign finishes on 9th May, and for more information or to donate, please follow the following link : www.crowdfunder.co.uk/mendourmountains
