Last weekend Holme Pierrepont was host to the National Student Rodeo - a kayaking event with individuals competing from universities across the UK. Over 700 students attended the weekend, with a Christmas themed party on Saturday evening. Students competed in novice, intermediate and advanced competitions where points were scored for crowd pleasing, old skool moves and of course river fancy dress!
As Alpkit have a relationship with, and are linked to Pyranha Kayaks, we shared a stand on the Saturday and Sunday. Competitors could demo a boat from Pyranha, check out Alpkit’s range of dry bags and read a copy of Outpost whilst waiting for the rain/hail(!) to pass. Pyranha held a #BeMoreBeth competition in memory of Beth Hume, for one lucky university to win a years sponsorship. Points were scored for carol singing, bringing gifts and for making the weekend as fun and enjoyable as possible! The lucky winners were the University of Birmingham, who also won the Spirit of PGL Award.
The whole weekend would not have been possible without River Legacy and their volunteers. Without this team, the party venue, food and bar would not have been possible. River Legacy is a registered charity and provides funding, facilities and support for paddle sports in England and Wales. We were pleased to be a part of the event - and hope that those who attended popped over to the Alpkit stand to say hello!
