Last weekend the MTBMeetup took place at One Planet Adventure in Llandegla, Wales. The idea of the event is to get mountain bikers from across the country together, to ride some amazing trails and meet new friends. There’s courses, free beer from the Kirkby Lonsdale Brewery and hydration from Skratch Labs.
This year’s meet up was the biggest one to date, with over 1200 riders attending. Stands from Orange, Santa Cruz and (of course!) Alpkit & Sonder took over the car park with bike demos available over the course of the weekend. A specific demo loop was created so riders could try out the bike of their choice, including Sonder’s Broken Road, Transmitter, Camimo and the newest Sonder bike, Vir Fortis.
The event opened Saturday morning at 9am and with the first demo going out at 9.30, there was plenty of time to grab some breakfast in the cafe. From 10am onwards, riders were hitting the trails and making most of the glorious sunshine! Alpkit’s Rich and Tom (mini pips) brought the tandem along and completed the 13 mile black and 11 mile red trails. Tom even completed a loop on the Sonder Vir Fortis!
With rain forecast for Sunday, the trails were significantly quieter than the day before. After a 10 minute shower, the sunshine made an appearance once more and riders soon flocked to the stands to grab a demo ride. The fat bike (Vir Fortis) most definitely got the most attention, with the Sonder Transmitter coming in close second.
It was a great weekend with lots of riding, eating and drinking! Registration to the event was free, but in order to demo, riders were encouraged to donate £10 to the Welsh Air Ambulance. Over £1100 was raised, and the raffle donated over £2000 to St Gemma’s Hospice. We can’t wait for next year!!
