Bikepacking in the Lakes

By Kenny Stocker

Back in October Ed Oxley and Benji Haworth left their home comforts, mounted their bikes and spent 3 days on a mission to complete a self-supported 60-odd mile multi-day tour of classic Lake District passes with a mix of mountain hut overnighters and campsites. They were prepared for quite a lot of carrying the bike up crazy scramble slopes and then dashing, crashing and smashing similarly mad descents down the other side. Carrying enough kit for 3 days in the mountains is a challenge on a regular mountain bike let alone on the full-susser machines they were riding. Those of you who came to either our Reveal the Path film evening or the Santa Cruz bike night at the Kendal Mountain Film festival will already have been treated to a taster of Benji's great photographs which documented their trip.

There will be a full article in the December edition of Singletrack, but for now you can get a taster on Ed's Bikepacking blog where he runs through some of the kit they used.
