(Less than) 3 weeks ‘til the Big Shakeout!

By Hati Whiteley

Today we sat down around a table and realised that in 3 weeks time we’ll be recovering from the Big Shakeout Festival. ('Recovery' usually involves coffee and biscuits, extra coffee, and lots of chatter about the weekend's festivities.)

We came up with a fair few burning questions, like ‘How much cheese is too much cheese?’(we opted for more cheese), ‘Has anyone ordered hay bales?’ (not yet), and ‘Is the beer and food sorted?’ (thankfully yes!).

Anyway, we figured you might have a few burning questions of your own, like…

I’ve already bought tickets, when will I receive them?

In the name of saving the trees and lightening the postie’s load, we send out your Big Shakeout ticket by email shortly prior to the event – you just need to show it to us upon arrival and at the registration point. You can either print it out or show it to us on your phone.

We’ll also include a bit of information about when to arrive, where to arrive, and what to arrive with.

What even is the Big Shakeout?

Your basecamp for adventure over the weekend of the 28th – 30th September (if only all basecamps offered beer, live music, and inspirational speakers). A place for being active during the day, being entertained during the night, and enjoying time with like-minded people.

Big Shakeout takes place on the beautiful Thornbridge Outdoors site in the middle of the Peak District, and the whole festival couldn't happen without the Thornbridge team. Big Shakeout is a anot-for-profit festival, with all proceeds going to the Alpkit Foundation.

Sounds excellent, can I still buy tickets?

We’re now releasing last-minute tickets for the Big Shakeout Festival. A limited number are available (about 30), So if you’ve been resting on your laurels, now’s the time to act!

Is it too late to sign up for courses?

Of course not! Some courses have sold out, but we've just added a few extras to meet demand, including a White Water Kayak Skills Builder, Capoeira and Drumming Workshops, and a Craft Session with the Peak Park rangers.

In fact, you can sign up for courses at the SofA meeting point all weekend, but we recommend booking as early as you can!

Bushcraft, belays and bikes can all be found at the Big Shakeout Festival

Can I bring my car?

If you want to bring a car onto the Thornbridge site, you’ll need a carpark ticket. You can get one of these on the Ticket page too.

I want to be entertained, what entertainment will there be?

Glad you asked! We run a busy schedule of entertainment at the Big Shakeout that you can dip in and out of every evening. You'll enjoy live music on Friday and Saturday on the Foundation and Fire stages, inspirational talks and tales of derring do on Saturday evening, and some of the best films from Kendal (plus a few of our additions) all weekend!

I want to eat, drink and be merry! Where can I eat and drink?

It's a festival of adventure, but that doesn't mean you have to live on adventure rations. You'll find no end of opportunities to refuel over the weekend, details of the AlpKitchen, Foundation bar, free tea and coffee (!!) and food providers can be found on the Food and Drinks page.

That’s all for now, keep one eye on your emails and we’ll see you there! We’re off to source some hay bales…
