One day to go till this years Big Shakeout and we are as calm as anything... so for those coming along here's just a quick recap on proceedings, although you will receive a programme of activities when you arrive.
We've had some great developments to the Big Shakeout over the last few weeks. The Friday evening welcome party will kick off with live music from 7, whilst the Blue Monkey bar will be getting the celebrations going. The Adventure film reel in the cafe and classic Shakeout burger and drink for £5 will be sure to get people ready for their weekend ahead.
As you'll probably know we have Alastair Humphreys talking on Friday night from around 8pm to get the adventurous spirit kicked off for the weekend. His talk will be split into two parts and at the end we will be opening up the floor to those intrepid souls ready to share their own micro adventure stories in a open mic session. Remember though, we'll not be allowing use of the projector so only props, maybe a poem you've written or perhaps even a song!Space for Alastairs talk will be limited so get there early if you can.
During Saturday there will be a couple of 'pay and play' activities such as the Skyropes course and Yoga sessions that you will be able to sign up for, we've also got a couple of free kids yoga sessions courtesy of Tatty Bumpkins. If you get to the shop on Friday evening you may also be able to sign up for any spare places on School of Adventure courses. Of course there are as well as a number of free onsite activities, but you may just be heading out to sample the delights of the Peak District!
Vin Cox will be taking people on a little tour for his Veloforage before hosting his evening in the Steep Edge cafe. This year he'll be chatting to Joe Beaumont fresh from his recent In The Frame challenge, adventurer and artist Emily Penn and the climbing legend that is Ron Fawcett. Be aware though that this talk did fill up quickly last year. Meanwhile in the marquee the music will be well underway getting party going, whilst in the 'Daring Deeds' Yurt there will be a intimate selection of talks from Dave Garry, Paul Swail and Dave Cornthwaite. As the night draws in Helen Appleton will be spinnin some bedtime stories by the fire, before stepping into some darker ghost stories for teenagers and adults alike!
If you've not checked it out recently, head over to the Big Shakeout site to check out the line up of bands and additional news. We are really looking forward to welcoming back some familiar faces and meeting plenty of new ones, so see you at the weekend!
