The My Climbing Series competitions have been taking place over the winter. It is a competition at 5 different climbing walls around the Midlands and consists of a bouldering and leading/top roping comp. In order to be in with a prize at the end you needed to have entered 4 of the 5 competitions and to have competed in all aspects of the comp.
Categories were split into ages: 8-10, 11-13, 14-16 and 17-19 both in male and female. Over the course of the 5 months the competition was very tight, over 70 people competing overall.
In Gracie Martin’s category Tara Hayes showed great technique and power to win every round, although with a very tense climb off in round one, With Ailsa, Nat and Sarah all in the same category it was going to be tough to beat British team member Alice Waterhouse who took podium position flashing almost everything throughout the whole competition. Sarah managed to come a close 2nd place overall.
James Parish was in the same category as Tom Bonnert, extremely strong at bouldering and even stronger at routes, James managed to scrape a 4th place while Tom managed to pull it together for the final round just beating Orin and Will aka “Team Leicester”.
Mr Strong himself and recently new British team member Billy Ridal may as well have been in a category all on his own! Excellent climbing throughout the whole competition kept him in first place for every round almost flashing everything that he got on!
Overall Nottingham came 3rd in the team event so next year watch this space, we’re about to kick Leicester off the top.
A massive thanks to all of the climbing walls for holding the competition: Creation, Bear Rock, Redpoint, Wolf Mountain and the Tower climbing centre. Iain for organising the whole event, the route setters who have an extremely difficult task setting, and of course all of the competitors who come to enter bringing there parents who spend all day judging and belaying.
Without you this could not happen!
